PM, senior ministers to review Ayodhya verdict

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, Sept 30 (IANS) - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will Thursday discuss the implications of the Ayodhya verdict, which has gone in favour of a temple, at a high-level meeting, official sources said.

The top-level meeting will discuss the implications of the verdict in the 61-year-old title suits of the site, which Hindu groups claim is the birth place of Lord Ram. The law-and-order situation in the country soon after the judgment will be also reviewed, a senior official told IANS.

The initial plan of the government was to call a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). But it was changed because of the absence of senior ministers Defence Minister AK Antony and External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, who are away in the US, the official said.

Besides Manmohan Singh, the review meeting will be attended by Home Minister P Chidambaram, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Law Minister M Veerappa Moily and other senior ministers, the sources said.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court in a verdict has ruled in favour of a temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.
