By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 29 Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released a coffee table book published on the occasion to commemorate the platinum jubilee celebrations of The Assam Tribune, at the programme held at the Pragjyoti-ITA Cultural Complex, Machkhowa in the evening. Titled The Assam Tribune: 75 Years of Resilience and Journalism, the book has been edited by Partha Pratim Hazarika, senior journalist, The Assam Tribune.

The 84-page book has chronicled the struggle faced and perseverance showed by this prestigious English daily newspaper in its 75-year long hallowed journey. Writings of eminent personalities like former President of India R Venkataraman, former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, the dailys founder Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah, founder editor Lakshmi Nath Phookan, eminent journalist DN Bezboruah, internationally-acclaimed litterateur Arup Kumar Dutta, Kumudeswar Hazarika, journalist Sanjoy Hazarika, Dr Nirmal Kumar Choudhury, Mitra Phukan and Pradip Acharjya have been included in the book.

The book has covered several old and rare photographs (first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru visiting the premises of the newspaper in Guwahati way back in 1951 is one of them), pages from the 75 years archive of the daily including the front page of its first issue that was published on August 4, 1939, some anecdotes related to the publication of the newspaper, among others.

The book has tried to showcase the historical events that happened in the world through the archival pages of the newspaper. This book is a very humble undertaking to relive the glorious and eventful past of a newspaper that has trod a long, arduous path over the past 75 long years.
