PM may visit Bangla next year

NEW DELHI, Dec 24 � Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is likely to visit Bangladesh next year.

The visit to Dhaka was confirmed by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina�s envoy and her Economic Affairs Adviser, Dr Moshiur Rahman here today.

�The visit by the Indian Prime Minister is certain and two sides will work out details about the visit including when it takes place,� the Adviser told newsmen.

A high-level Bangladesh delegation is in the Capital that also includes Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Gawhar Rizvi. The team is on a stock taking mission to assess the implementation of the decisions taken at the Summit meeting between the two Prime Ministers in Delhi early this year.

�Basically we are here to see how things progresses over the months after two heads of government met in Delhi in early January,� Dr. Rahman said.

Dr. Rahman who called on the Commerce and Industry Ministry officials said that Indian Commerce and Industry Minister, Anand Sharma wished to visit Dhaka.

He said that a Power delegation from India would visit Bangladesh next month. He said that India was making feasibility study for setting up of coal-based power station in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, in a session of blooming relationships, Bangladesh High Commissioner, Tariq Ahmed Karim called on Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram on Thursday. The visit assumed significance because of Paresh Barua�s allegation that his son had been abducted in Bangladesh.

The High Commissioner, however, pleaded that he had no information about the matter. He informed that his meeting with the Home Minister was in connection with bilateral issues.
