AGARTALA, Feb 24 - Asserting that welfare of farmers is on the priority of the BJP-IPFT Government, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday said Tripura Government has been working to fulfill the promises given to the people.

The government wants to make Tripura a wealthy State by boosting farming sector and its stakeholders. Since the States economy is mainly agrarian, we are leaving no stone unturned to make the farmers happy, he said.

The Chief Minister was speaking after launching Prime Minister Kishan Samman Yojana (PM-KISAN) in the State at a programme in Rabindra Bhavan here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced the welfare scheme Kishan Samman Nidhi Scheme (PM-KISHAN) for the welfare of farmers. In our State, 4.50 lakh farmers will be benefited. The State Government has taken all steps to make it a grand success, he said.

The Prime Minister has been working for doubling the income of farmers by 2020 and PM-KISHAN is aimed at achieving this, he said, adding the scheme will ensure each small farmer gets Rs 6,000 in a year in three installments.

The Chief Minister said, Under the scheme, the Centre will spend Rs 75,000 crore each fiscal.

Coming down heavily on the Left Front, Deb alleged it was the Marxists who did injustice to the farmers for long years. We are determined to bring good days for the farmers and there will be no discrimination when it comes to PM-KISHAN, he added.
