DIBRUGARH, May 5 - The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS) on Tuesday burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Thana Chariali here in protest against Mondays police firing on anti-dam protesters at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

The twin organisations, which oppose the construction of dams as part of hydro-electric projects, slammed the Modi Government for using bullets against people who are apprehensive about the project. Sunil Sonowal, general secretary, KMSS, Dibrugarh district, has reiterated the demand for a halt to the construction of dams.

Local AJYCP members staged similar protests in the heart of the town.
