PM asked to take peace process forward

IMPHAL, Oct 26 � Naga bodies in Manipur has urged the Prime Minister Dr Manhohan Singh to take forward the ongoing peace process between NSCN-IM and Government of India �to a logical conclusion at an early date�.

In a memorandum to the PM, representatives of seven Naga bodies on Tuesday said, ��we urge your good office to take forward the peace process to its logical conclusion at an early date and thereby usher in an era of peace and stability to the Indian sub-continent�.

The ceasefire agreement between the NSCN-IM and Government of India is on since August 1997.

The signatories of the memorandum are United Naga Council Manipur, Naga People�s Organisation, Tangkhul Naga Long, Chandel Naga People�s Organisation, Naga Women�s Union Manipur, All Naga Students� Association Manipur and Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur.

The memorandum further said, �it is, however, our grave concern that the peace process has been tardy and that the opportunity for lasting peace that lies before us could be wasted if the same is not translated into a reality with sincerity and political will�.

Earlier, thousands of people took to the streets in Senapati district headquarter today.

The public rallies which started from three different directions, converged at public ground for a meeting. The market and business establishments in the hill town remained closed during the rally.
