Pledge to resolve border dispute

By Newmai News

AIZAWL, Sept 11 - Mizorams apex student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), has pledged to take measures to resolve the long-standing Mizoram-Assam border dispute.

MZP president L Ramdinliana Renthlei today said that the student body, in its federal council meet held on Tuesday, resolved to take steps to resolve the border dispute soon. He also said that the student body would take measures to ensure that the ongoing construction of the mosque by Assam in the Zophai area on disputed land is stopped at the earliest.

Renthlei warned that the MZP would construct a resting shed at Zophai along the Mizoram-Assam border if Assam continues with the construction of the mosque.

It may be noted here that the meeting of the core committee on the border issue held last week had decided to take measures to ensure that the construction of the mosque on the disputed land is halted.

At the district-level official talks held recently, the Mizoram and Assam governments agreed to maintain status quo on the disputed land along the Mizoram-Assam border.
