Plea to upgrade Cardiology dept at SMCH

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 11 - A day after the untimely demise of 25-year-old Sayantan Chakraborty due to severe cardiac arrest and lack of improved treatment facilities at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), All India Mahila Congress president and former Silchar MP Susmita Dev has urged the State Health Minister to upgrade treatment options at the hospital.

In a letter to the Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Susmita said, Death of the youth has shocked everyone here and demoralised the people. Had there been better life- saving treatment options, the youth might have been saved.

Many lives were lost due to the absence of better healthcare services in the Government hospital. I request you to look into the matter and take steps immediately to upgrade the Departments of Cardiology, Neurology and Nephrology with sophisticated treatment procedures so that patients in critical condition could be attended to and suitably treated in the coming days.
