AZARA, May 16 The residents of Chakardow and Pamohi have expressed deep concern over the recent decision of the Forest Department to declare a one-km radius from Deepor Beel as an eco-sensitive zone.
The residents of these areas opined that Chakardow and Pamohi, two revenue villages in Azara revenue circle under Kamrup Metropolitan district are not under the perview of Deepor Beel. They expressed their anguish yesterday while the Forest Department organised a public meeting for hearing the concerned peoples views on declaring the area as an eco-sensitive zone, at Chakardow.
If a one-km radius from Deepor Beel is declared as an eco-sensitive zone, i.e., at Mikirpara-Chakardow and Pamohi, there will be a ban on construction of buildings and factories, besides sale and purchase of land, they said.
They also said that permission from the GMDA will be required for any kind of construction work, which will be very complicated for them.
The concerned people therefore urged the Government to reconsider the decision. However, the meeting remained incomplete.
