Plea to reschedule train timings

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, June 26 - The timings of the passenger train to Karimganj from Silchar is causing much hardship to the daily commuters, majority of them being office goers. Neelanjana Gupta, a resident of Silchar and an employee of the Water Resource Department at Karimganj has been a regular passenger in the Silchar-Karimganj local train for the past seven years. Iqbal Hussain, another resident of Silchar who works at the office of the Deputy Commissioner Karimganj travels by the train to reach office on time. But both are unhappy with the strange schedule of departure from Silchar.

According to Neelanjana Gupta, at a time when the Silchar-Karimganj road is in a pathetic shape, people waited for a long time for the trains to start and bring a much needed relief from the back-breaking journey. But sadly, the first train to Karimganj departs at 6 am and the next train leaves at 11am, Gupta lamented. Both the trains depart at an unusual time for the office going people. We do not want that people of Karimganj should suffer. But we need a train at 8:30 am so that we can reach office on time, she said. She informed that a memorandum highlighting their demand was submitted to the Station Master of Silchar railway station urging him to bring a much needed change in the timing of the trains. Also, Gupta made it clear that if the authorities fail to make necessary changes, they will resort to massive agitation from July 3.

Meanwhile, Biplab Das, station master of Silchar railway station said that since the train lines are blocked due to complications at Migrendisa, they have no option but to make alterations with the limited resources. He informed that he has communicated about the demand to his higher authorities.
