Plea to probe Lumding incident

By Correspondent

LUMDING, June 29 A sizeable section of local people has expressed deep concern over the incident that took place at the New Colony area here on June 26 at around 3 pm in which a gang of 12 people in army fatigue forced their way into the house of Mintu Mitra and Sachin Mitra and snatched away two licenced guns in the name of conducting a search operation on their premises.

Two VDP personnel, who were on duty in the nearby road, were physically assaulted by the gang.

As police subsequently visited the spot, officer in-charge of the local police station, Arun Bora informed this scribe that those who conducted the search operation were indeed army personnel, although they did not give any prior information nor have sought any cooperation of the local police station.

However, the citizens here have urged the authority concerned to enquire into the matter and take necessary steps in this regard.
