NORTH GUWAHATI, Aug 12 � The first Prime Minister of undivided Assam, Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi was remembered at his ancestral home here, where an educational institution now stands, on the occasion of his death anniversary.
A meeting on the occasion was anchored by Gaurikanta Kakoti and attended by several distinguished persons. After offering floral tributes before the portrait of the late Lokapriya, several members present spoke about the unique contributions of the late Prime Minister towards growth of the State.
The speakers included Sula Sarmah, Munin Deka, Brajendra Kumar Baruah, Bhairab Sarmah, Ratul Baruah, Bipul Changkakoti and others. The meeting adopted a resolution urging the State PWD (Roads) to implement the resolution adopted on August 5, 1991 in regard to naming the 11-km stretch of the road from Amingaon (Hajo Chowk) to Bezera via Rajaduar as �Lopapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Road�.
In that meeting on August 5, 1991, the then PWD chief engineer Harendra Nath Chakraborty was also present.
