Plea to evict encroachers from Dibru-Saikhowa

By Correspondent

TINSUKIA, July 19 - Demanding eviction of illegal encroachers of doubtful citizenship from the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, activists of All Tinsukia District Students Union (ATDSU), a unit of All Assam Students Union, resorted to dharna in front of the Divisional Forest Office (Wildlife) at Boroguri here on Monday.

The students body alleged that about 30 families have encroached on the National Park at Lanka-Tapu and have been residing there by building houses etc. On the opposite side of Na-Dola in the area, about 35 to 40 houses have been built by some doubtful citizens.

If these encroachers are not evicted forthwith, then it would create unrest within the social fabric of the district, they added. The students body demanded that the park authority should take up the matter seriously and evict these illegal encroachers, or else they would be compelled to undertake a vigorous mass movement in the near future.
