Plea to evict encroachers

By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, Jan 5 - Encroachment on the pavements here, a popular tea town of Assam, by unscrupulous traders has become a nuisance for the local residents. Citizens have urged the competent authorities to address the issue on an urgent basis.

Santam Saha, a resident of Nehru Road under Ward No. 4, alleged that the footpaths are being illegally used by shopkeepers in Doomdooma town. The footpaths are meant for the general public, but shopkeepers have encroached on them to increase their business premises. This has led to traffic jams and accidents, Saha said and complained that the local municipal authority has been indifferent in this regard.

Saha has moved the chairman of the Doomdooma Municipal Board, the officer in-charge of the Doomdooma Police Station, the Circle Officer of the Doomdooma Revenue Circle and the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia district in this regard.
