SILAPATHAR, May 29 � The Gonotantric Nagorik Suroksha Manch (GNSM) submitted memorenda to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and concerned authorities of the Water Resource Department for taking suitable measures for flood and erosion control in Dhemaji district, especially in Jonai and Sissiborgaon blocks.
The GNSM demanded conducting a details departmental study on the annual flood and ahronic erosion situation. The Manch demanded a comprehensive, scientific and long-term plan and its implementation to contain flood and erosion, besides detailed Project Report; Environmental impact Assessment, Environmental Management plan, and adopting Geo-fabric tube technology.
They also suggested putting pressure on the Central Government regarding flood and erosion, for strengthening of embankments, long-term measures for protection of lives and livelihoods of riverine villages, besides construction of road-cum-fund along the river Brahmaputra from Bahir sills panchayat, Jonai to Jekeliputa in Dhakuakhana.
