TEZPUR, Dec 6 - Various organisations here including the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha and Ban Theatre family held a commemoration programme on December 3 evening at the Ban Theatre to mark the second death Anniversary of noted playwright and journalist Late Deepak Mahanta. Attending the brief commemoration programme, drama artist Pulak Kumar Deka, Alok Nath, Chairman, AMTRON, Ritubaran Sharma, Debabrata Sharma, president of Tezpur Press Club, Jayanta Bora among others paid rich tributes to the noted playwright.
Bhupen Baruah, Mrigen Bora and Bhupen Sharma recited dialogues of two popular plays of the playwright namely Gospuria and Marudyanat godhuli that mesmerised the gathering. Meanwhile, commemorating the noted playwright Pulak Kumar Deka said that Late Deepak Mahanta was an extraordinary personality who always tried to focus on folk culture and the problem of different communities of the State through his plays and journalism while Alok Nath in his speech stressed on doing something in memory of the late playwright and the journalist. Earlier, in his welcome address, the president of Ban Theatre, Bankim Sarma spoke on how Deepak Mahanta was sensitive in dealing with the social problems.
