Playwright Ali Haidar laid to rest

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, May 10 � Noted playwright and cultural activist Ali Haidar, who had died in a Guwahati hospital on May 6, was laid to rest in his home town North Lakhimpur on May 7.

Thousands of people thronged the residence of this ace dramatist at KB Road of North Lakhimpur when his body arrived from Guwahati in the early hours of the morning. Later his body was taken out with a procession from his home to the theatre complex of Nata Sainik where public paid their last respect and tributes to him. More than 70 different organisations of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Sonitpur districts paid their last respects to Haidar�s body.

These bodies include IPTA, Asam Sahitya Sabha, Asom Natya Sanmilan, AASU, AJYCP, NSUI, NABIK, Manchyan, North Lakhimpur Municipality Board, North Lakhimpur Development Authority, District Bar Association, North Lakhimpur Press Club, Senior Citizens Forum, All Assam Karmachari Parishad, North Lakhimpur College, Lakhimpur Girls College, Satriya Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Green Heritage and his own Nata Sainik. The Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur, Prasanta Sagar Changmai, the principal of Chaiduwar College, Gohpur, Dr Anjan Kr Ozah and many others offered floral tributes to him. Latter his zanaza took place at North Lakhimpur Town Kabarstan at 3 pm which was attended by thousands of people belonging to all communities.
