Platinum jubilee of Jagi HS School ends

JAGIROAD, Oct 16 - The three-day concluding function of the platinum jubilee celebration of the Jagi HS School, situated under Mayong Circle concluded at the school play ground in the presence of a large gathering recently.

The programmes began with the hoisting of school flag by Chilarai Konwar, principal of the school which was followed by hoisting of jubilee flags led by Sudhir Borthakur, working president of the celebration committee. Bhogram Bora, retired principal of the school inaugurated the exhibition and book fair organised on the occasion.

While inaugurating the life-sized statue of educationist Dibakar Bharali, Dr Guluk Ch Goswami, retired professor of Gauhati University, who was also a student of Jagi HS School, in his speech, recalled his contributions. Dibakar Bharali was the founder principal of the institution.

Dr Bhaben Ch Neog, principal of Jagiroad College conducted a felicitation and alumni session where about 60 ex-teachers and employees were felicitated in which Narendranath Keot, ex-principal of Morigaon College inaugurated the session. Ex-students, Jatin Pari, Ramani Sarma, CK Bora and Dr AK Bora spoke on their school experiences.

An enlightening session was also organised in which Lakheswar Thakuria, Inspector of Schools, Morigaon inaugurated. Dr Abani Kr Bhagawati, professor in Geography, GU, Nanda Sing Borkala, noted litterateur, Dr Anjanjyoti Chaudhury, distinguished writer, Dr Buljit Buragohain, professor, GIMT were the participants in the session.

The speakers spoke on various aspects related to the past and present education system including nature, relationship of teachers and students, among others. The session was conducted by Dr Nilamoni Bora, secretary (retd), University classes, GU, who was also the student of Jagi HS School.

Harendra Bora, president, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha released the souvenir named Anannya Barennika edited by Rajumoni Saikia.

Debendranath Deka, president, cultural committee, Tarun Talukdar, retired principal of the school inaugurated Prafulla Ch Deka and Narendranath Bordoloi memorial cultural functions respectively.

The open session was presided over by Bibekananda Doloi, Parliamentary Secretary (Veterinary), Govt of Assam who is also the president of celebration committee. The former MLA of Jagiroad, Bubul Das also spoke on the occasion. A cultural procession was taken out, where several ethnic groups participated and was inaugurated by BK Konwar, Member, Morigaon Zila Parishad.
