Platinum jubilee of Jagi HS School begins

JAGIROAD, May 18 � The inaugural function of the platinum jubilee celebration of the Jagi Higher Secondary School, situated under Mayong circle and established in 1938, got off on the premises of the institution on May 17.

Jagiroad MLA, Bibekananda Doloi, who is also the president of the celebration committee, inaugurated the function in the presence of a large gathering.

Jatin Paroi, retired associate professor of geography, Raha College, who is an ex-student of the school, inaugurated the alumni meet organized on the occasion. Altogether 500 former students, now established in various parts of the country, attended the meet. The alumni meet was presided over by ex-student Ramcharan Bharali, who is a former principal of Dimoria College, Khetri.

Among those spoke on various aspects in the alumni meet included Dr Nilamoni Bora, former secretary, University Classes, Gauhati University, Dr Khiroda Saikia, mantri, Asom Rashtrabhasa Prasar Samiti, Guwahati, Munin Borthakur, senior citizen of Jagiroad area, and Narayan Chandra Sarma. The speakers recalled the dedication of the teachers of the school during their student days.

Earlier, Chilarai Konwar, principal of the school, welcomed the former students and guests. Rajumoni Saikia and Himangshu Rajkhowa anchored the get-together programme of the former students of the school.

The general body of the alumni meet resolved to prepare an academic roadmap for a hundred years for the school and it is being headed by Dr Nilamoni Bora. By another resolution, the session decided to erect a full-size statue of the founder principal of the school, Dibakar Bharali, in the school campus.

A 31-member body of the alumni association was constituted in the meeting with RC Bharali as president, Jatin Paroi as working president, Dr AK Bora and Dr Raktim Tamuli as secretaries and CK Bora as treasurer.

Earlier in the morning, school principal Chilarai Konwar hoisted the school flag, while celebration committee president Bibekananda Doloi hoisted the platinum jubilee flag. Ex-student, Mahidhar Saikia then offered smriti tarpan, while a total of 75 earthen lamps were lit on the occasion, led by Bhaben Bharali, former principal of the school.
