Plastic-free mission launched in Udalguri

UDALGURI, Sept 14 - The Udalguri Municipal Board launched its mission against single-use harmful polythene and plastic bags in Udalguri town from today.

This was a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s clarion call to make India a plastic-free nation. Thus, responding to the appeal of the Prime Minister, along with other parts of the country, the Udalguri Municipal Board too launched the plastic-free Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) which will continue upto October 2.

Meanwhile, two schools of Udalguri town area, namely Udalguri Girls� HS School and Ramswaroop Agarwalla Memorial English School declared their institutions as plastic and polythene-free zones since September 1 last.

On the other hand, the Udalguri district committee of Aranya Suraksha Samiti of Asom, a nature organisation in a press release issued by its secretary R Sapkota appealed to all the producers of plastic and polythene bags to convert their production of single-use polythene and plastic bags into eco- friendly paper and cloth bags for the betterment of the society and bright future of our present and future generations.
