Plasma donors receive cash reward

DIBRUGARH, Sept 16 - Eighteen persons who donated plasma at the Plasma Bank of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) here to help the critical Covid-19 patients, were felicitated today by Dibrugarh Press Club, Shree Marwari Natya Samity in association with the district administration at a function at Motilal Jitani Bhawan, Jalukpara.

Dibrugarh Press Club and Shree Marwari Natya Samity in association with the district administration had announced earlier to honour and reward donors with Rs 5000 each to 100 donors who donate plasma with effect from September 10, 2020 in AMCH. Till yesterday, some 22 donors have donated plasma.

The Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha and the other dignitaries handed over cheques of Rs 5,000 each and the appreciation notelet to the donors. The programme, among others, was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dipu Kumar Deka, Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) Principal Dr Hiranya Kumar Goswami, social workers � Makhan Lal Gattani of Jorhat and Atmaram Birmiwal of Dibrugarh, Prabir Chakraborty, president, Dibrugarh Press Club , Kailash Bagaria, president of Marwari Natya Samity, Project Coordinator Ajit Bajaj, Anil Poddar, secretary, Dibrugarh Press Club, Nirmal Garodia, secretary, Marwari Natya Samity, members of Press Club, Marwari Natya Samity and various social organisations.

It needs to be mentioned here that Makhan Lal Gattani of Gattani Industries has donated Rs 3.50 lakh and Atmaram Birmiwal of the city here has contributed Rs 1.50 lakh towards the project initiated jointly by Dibrugarh Press Club and Marwari Natya Samity in association with Dibrugarh district administration.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the initiative taken by both the organizations to encourage the plasma donors and expressed that this initiative will definitely increase the number of plasma donations in AMCH.

AMC Principal Dr Hiranya Kr Goswami, Social Workers Makhan Lal Gattani, Atmaram Birmiwal also expressed their views and appreciated the initiative. Prabir Chakraborty, president, Dibrugarh Press Club offered the vote of thanks to all for making the project a success.

The number of plasma donors has increased since the launch of the project on September 10. Altogether 70 donors donated their plasma till September 15 since the plasma therapy started at AMCH on August 4. Out of the total 70 donors, 48 donations were done in the first 36 days till September 9. After the project was launched on September 10, some 22 voluntarily donated plasma in only 6 days.
