DHUBRI, Aug 5 - In a bid to develop Bilasipara town and its adjacent villages into an organised urban area, a masterplan has been prepared and is now all set to be implemented.

The office of the Deputy Director of Town and Country Planning, Dhubri informed that they have already published the draft of the Greater Bilasipara masterplan that includes an overall development of the infrastructure of Bilasipara town and 21 villages spreading over 45 sq km.

They reported that the masterplan has demarcated the residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural areas along with eco-zones and transportation zones. The ambitious plan has also identified a site for the establishment of a waste disposal system at the Hakama Part-4 area.

As per the masterplan, the bus stand of Bilasipara will be shifted to the Surjakhata area and a new network of roadways and drainage system will be developed within the town and its adjacent areas.

The plan also describes about development of Hakama Beel and to make it free from encroachment. One bigha of land has been identified for setting up a colony for the Safai Karmacharis on the outskirt of Bilasipara town.

We have already published the draft plan and the final plan will be out very soon, said Deepak Kumar Das, Assistant Research Assistant of the Town and Country Planning Department at Dhubri, who also said that to implement the plan in a proper way, a full-fledged development authority is needed to be established first. He said that this authority would undertake implementation of the proposed plans.

He also said, Bilasipara is a fast growing town and will soon be crowded. So, proper infrastructural development is needed, otherwise it will be overcrowded in no time. He also said that there are many eco-zones around the town that need to be preserved.
