By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 20 - Guwahati Planetarium, which has completed 25 years of existence, will have a state-of-the-art multi-activity centre on its premises with several scientific facilities. The foundation stone of this new annexe will be laid by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Science & Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta on November 22.

This new facility, with a projected cost of Rs 12.42 crore, will have a 5-D theatre, a virtual reality lab, a tinkering lab, an auditorium with all modern facilities, exhibition corners, etc., so that science enthusiasts, particularly students, can spend some creative time, apart from watching planetarium shows.

The foundation stone will be laid on the occasion of closing ceremony of the silver jubilee celebrations of Guwahati Planetarium, where two new facilities will also be inaugurated by the two ministers. These are a Virtual Reality Zone (VR Zone) and the other, an Astronomical Gallery. While the VR Zone has been set up in collaboration with the Design Department of IIT Guwahati, the Astronomical Gallery has been designed and developed by Creative Museum Designers, Kolkata.
