Plan to make Dibrugarh �open defecation free�

DIBRUGARH, July 16 - The district administration and the Public Health Engineering department here have planned several programmes under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and have resolved to convert the district into an open defecation free district within a year.

In a meeting held among the heads of different departments, the district administration with the cooperation of all the departments today set a 100 days deadline as the first initiative to convert 100 villages open defecation free.

As part of the campaign, all the heads of different government departments would spend a night today in 50 villages and work on Information Education and Communication and Human resource development issues to create awareness and mobilize the common villagers on the importance of clean and hygienic environment and to denounce defecation in the open, a release stated.

The Deputy Commissioner MS Manivannan, who is leading the campaign, will spend a night in Naghat Sonowal village in Merbeel Gaon Panchayat under Joypur Development Block and on Sunday morning he would undertake a door- to-door visit to create awareness and exchange views with the villagers, the release said.

Further on July 17, Anganwadi workers will be distributing handbills on the campaign to over 2,50,000 village family heads signed by the Deputy Commissioner. The Deputy Commissioner has urged upon all responsible citizens to play an active role in making the programme successful.
