Plan to connect Silchar via air cargo

SILCHAR, March 7 - At a time when the State government is adopting policies and taking steps to uplift the poor farmers of the State by arranging export of the agricultural produce to cities abroad via air cargo, State Minister of Forests, Fisheries and Excise Parimal Suklabaidya has said that there are plans to bring Silchar in the ambit of the scheme soon.

Addressing a meeting after inaugurating the district-level Krishi Mela at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Cachar on Wednesday, Suklabaidya said, �there has been a massive face-lift in the agricultural sector in the recent times and the State government led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is committed to ensure socio-economic well-being of the farmers, who are the backbone of Assam�s economy. The initiative to export the agricultural produce of Assam to other countries, especially the South East Asian nations by air cargo will boost the morale of the farmers and government is planning to bring Silchar well within the scheme of things for the purpose, which shall help the farmers of Barak Valley to a great deal.

Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri also attended the inauguration ceremony. Amitabh Rai, chairman of the Cachar Zila Parishad said that the BJP-led parishad shall leave no stone unturned to bring smiles in the faces of the rural population of the district, especially the farmers. Officials from the Agricultural department highlighted the benefits which farmers can avail and maximise their production.
