PK Dutta sent to judicial custody

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 13 - Prime accused in the SI recruitment scam and former Deputy Inspector General of Assam Police PK Dutta was on Tuesday sent to judicial custody by the Court after his remand period with the CID ended.

However, the Court allowed supply of medicines to Dutta from his home, as was prayed by his daughter.

Dutta was arrested from the Indo-Nepal border for his alleged involvement in the recruitment scam.

Meanwhile, Akshay Chand, the owner of Akshay Communications, who is also one of the accused in the case, is undergoing treatment at a city-based hospital. Chand was reportedly on the run ever since his name surfaced in the case.

Meanwhile, sources informed that investigators are likely to achieve a major breakthrough, with more skeletons likely to tumble in the next few days.

More arrests are likely in the next few days, sources said, adding that many more facets to the entire scam have been discovered.

After names of senior police officials like Kumar Sanjit Krishna surfacing, a team of CID on Tuesday left for Karimganj to probe the missing links.

Staff Correspondent from Silchar adds:

A CID team conducted a raid in Karimganj district on Tuesday in connection with the SI recruitment scam.

According to sources, CID officials led by an SP-rank officer conducted the raid for many hours mainly at two places Police Guest House and Police Reserve in search of clues related to the scam.

The sources informed that a few persons were quizzed and later some of them were taken to the CJMs court as well.

However, when contacted, DIG (Southern Range) Dilip Kumar Dey chose not to make any comment on the issue.

It may be mentioned here that Kumar Sanjit Krishna, the SP of Karimganj, was recently transferred to Barpeta as SP (FRRO), and Mayank Kumar has taken over as the new SP of Karimganj.

PTI adds: Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna said on Tuesday that law will take its course after reports suggested that his brother Kumar Sanjit Krishna has been summoned for questioning in connection with the recruitment scam.

In a social media post, the Chief Secretary said his name was being dragged into the controversy with motives. My brother is a matured independent individual in a different profession. If he has done something wrong, law will take its own course on the basis of evidence, he said.

As Chief Secretary, I have been supporting an independent and neutral inquiry from the beginning as directed by the Chief Minister and I believe whoever is guilty will be brought to justice, he added.

A few individuals/officers are trying to keep the focus on me in the media instead of the enquiry for the reasons better known to them. May God bless all, the Chief Secretary further said.

I am used to mud slinging many times earlier too without any fault... But, why drag my name, photo in media and focus me with some motives. This is cheap, he said.
