Piyush Hazarika takes stock of Mangaldai civil hospital affairs

MANGALDAI, July 1 - Piyush Hazarika, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam made a sudden visit to Mangaldai Civil Hospital recently.

The Minister in the presence of MLA Mangaldai Gurujyoti Das, DC, Darrang Ashok Kr Barman, Executive Director, NHM Dr Asyut Baisya, Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang, Dr Ruplal Nunisa, Superintendent of the Civil Hospital Dr Kalyan Kr Bora reportedly inquired about several issues relating to the district hospital including the unauthorised absence of doctors and other staff on duty, doctors prescribing branded drugs instead of generic drugs available in the hospital, attachment of the ANM staff to this district health institution from hospitals in the peripheries of the district and the overall cleanliness of the hospital among others etc.

Later he directed the authority to take disciplinary action against the pharmacist of the hospital and accountant of hospital management committee. Further, he directed the detachment of all ANM staff already attached in the hospital for the last several years. Surprisingly, the Minister didn�t say anything regarding the early functioning of the Rs 70 crore, 100-bed Maternity and Child Health Hospital which has been left abandoned for more than two years or improvement of the existing poor infrastructure of the Civil Hospital.
