SHILLONG, Oct 17 There might not be a Pitha-delivery-boy, ringing the door bell anytime soon, as in the case of its fancier-imported cousin, the Pizza, but, this traditional slow food can knock the health out of a Pizza on nutritional values, on any given day, experts claim.

A Pitha made of rice batter, can have sweet, vegetable or non-vegetable stuffing and can be fried, steamed or baked. In terms of nutritional value a 100 gm of Pitha stuffed with coconut has protein, fat, carbohydrate, iron, calcium and energy.

Pizza on the other hand has a cereal base, also having carbohydrates, proteins and fats, but, what make it unhealthy are the tastemakers, colouring agents and preservatives that fast food chains add for their longevity, said head of St. Marys college, Home science department, Nirmala James, during an indigenous slow food festival here today.
