TURA, Sept 18 - South Garo Hills Police recovered a pistol from a member of Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), an NGO formed by former GNLA chairman Champion Sangma. Fifteen AHAM members were arrested earlier in an extortion case at Jadigittim.
Nongalbibra unit AHAM environment secretary Rajesh M Marak confessed to the police of possessing an illegal weapon. Based on his leads, a police team launched a search operation at Songsak today and recovered the gun.
On September 13, 13 AHAM members from the NGO�s Nongalbibra unit were held after they allegedly extorted money from non-Garo traders in the area. Two leaders � Cherak D Shira and Georgeprince Ch Momin � were subsequently arrested following their interrogation.
