By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 7 The Government Railway Police last night seized pirated NCERT textbooks from the Guwahati Railway station.

Following the seizure, police arrested Bhabesh Mishra of Book Mart to which the parcel was meant to be delivered. Mishra was arrested when he arrived at the railway station to receive the parcel this morning.

The parcel, according to police, was booked in Delhi and meant to be delivered to Book Mart located in Pan Bazar area.

The 26 cartons, which we have seized, contained around 2,000 copies of books meant for Class XI and Class XII, police sources said.

The accused during questioning said that he was unaware of the fact that the books were pirated and it was at the instance of one of his friends that he went to receive the delivery, sources stated.

The arrested also claimed that the books were to be sent to upper Assam and other parts of the North East.

The sources further divulged that police received a tip-off about the delivery from Bhibash Kumar Das, business manager, NCERT, who had lodged a complaint in this connection.

NCERT officials had told police that pirated NCERT textbooks have entered the market and an organised racket is working behind it.

Based on the inputs, police intensified its vigil as a result of which the recovery was made, police said, adding, We are investigating the case and chances of more arrests cannot be ruled out.
