Pipeline work delays Saraighat bridge completion

NEW DELHI, Dec 10 - The Centre on Thursday clarified that the postponement in completion of the bridge over the Brahmaputra at Saraighat is because of the delay in shifting of the oil pipeline.

The construction of bridge over the river Brahmaputra at Saraighat has been delayed due to delay in shifting of oil pipeline and change in design of the main bridge and increase in scope due to additional works at Jalukbari junction construction of a signal-free crossing in place of a grade separator envisaged earlier, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Pon Radhakrishnan said in a Lok Sabha reply to a question by Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is making efforts for resolving all issues with the help of the Assam Government for completion of the project by August 2016, the Minister said.

Meanwhile, the East-West Corridor in Assam is scheduled for completion by December 2016, the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways said.
