Pipeline leakage affects water supply

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - Nearly 2,500 households in the Sarania, Ulubari, Lachit Nagar, Rehabari and surrounding areas of the city were affected on Friday after a Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) water supply pipe started leaking at Panbazar.

The pipeline leakage is likely to hit more than 10,000 people in these areas. It is for the second time that the supply of water is being disrupted in these areas due to a snag in the pipeline.

On August 25, one of the water supply pipes of the GMC near the BSNL office at Panbazar got damaged.

A GMC official stated, We want to notify our valued customers and the public of Sarania and the surrounding areas that there will be an interruption in water supply for two days starting from today. Water pumping to the Sarania reservoir has come to a halt due to 350 mm pumping line connected to the reservoir has suddenly started leaking at Panbazar today. Workers have been engaged to fix it and restore water supply at the earliest. Repair work is going on in full swing.

Water will be supplied to the affected areas through mobile water tankers. However, it will not be possible for us to cover all the areas with the tankers but we will try to cover the maximum number of households, the official added.
