SHILLONG, Nov 6 - The Shillong Press Club today mourned the demise of one of its oldest members, Walton Jyrwa Lytan, fondly called Ton.
Lytan passed away at 4. 15 this evening after a brief battle with a life-threatening disease at his residence at Lumbhalang, Nongthymmai Lawjynriew. He was 52.
He began his career in photo journalism in the late 1980s after a successful stint as the founding general secretary of the Hill Farmers� Union, an organisation that continues to fight for the rights and welfare of farmers to this day.
Lytan was associated with several English and vernacular publications. His last assignment was with the Assam-based UB Photos.
