GUWAHATI, Sept 21 - In a special gesture to acknowledge the unique contributions of all the governors towards the overall growth of the State, a photo gallery of all the governors of Assam since 1947 was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, who was also the former Assam Governor, at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan here today.
Purohit expressed his gratitude for having been invited to launch the photo gallery and hailed the efforts of present Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi for conceptualising and setting up the photo gallery which, according to him, would give the future generation an opportunity to know about the rich legacy of the Raj Bhavan, Assam and all the governors who served in the State.
Governor Prof Mukhi, in his brief speech, said other Raj Bhavans across the country have such photo galleries and therefore, he thought that the Raj Bhavan, Assam should also have one.
It may be mentioned that since 1947, 26 governors served in Assam and their portraits have been placed in the conference hall.
Former Governor of Meghalaya Ranjit Shekhar Moosahary, former Governor of Bihar and Tripura Devananda Konwar, Chief Secretary of Assam Alok Kumar, Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia, Principal Secretary and Former Secretary to Governor of Assam Ajay Tiwari, Secretary to the Governor of Assam Sanjib Kumar Gohain Barua, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University Prof Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of KKHSOU Prof Hitesh Deka and officers and staff of the Raj Bhavan were present in the inaugural function.
