Philosophy Day lecture at city college

GUWAHATI, Nov 16 - �The present age is an age of distraction, which puts up challenges before the focused study of subjects like philosophy. But still philosophy will find its way to move ahead breaking free from this labyrinth of innumerable distractions this modern world poses.�

This observation was made by Pradip Khataniar, associate professor of philosophy, Cotton University, in the lecture programme on the topic �Philosophy in the age of Distraction� organised by the Department of Philosophy, Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College on the occasion of World Philosophy Day on November 15, said a press release today.

Khataniar highlighted the role of philosophy behind the emergence of specialised subjects like physics and psychology.

Principal of the college Dr Sikhamoni Konwar threw light on the importance of inculcating a philosophical bent of mind for exploring the greater truth about this phenomenal world and sustaining its peace, democracy and human rights.

The second issue of the philosophy department�s wall magazine Sundaram was also inaugurated by Khataniar and Dr Konwar.

Dr Amburam Gogoi, president of the college governing body also spoke on the occasion. The lecture was followed by an interactive session. The programme was anchored by Dr Marami Choudhury, head of the Department of Philosophy, and the vote of thanks was offered by Rajab Ali, assistant professor of philosophy.
