Philanthropists, scribes to be felicitated

GUWAHATI, Aug 25 - The National Union of Journalists-India (NUJI) and the Journalists Association of Assam will felicitate officials, philanthropists and journalists in the State, who have done remarkable work during the COVID-19 pandemic, at a function to be held here on Thursday.

The NUJI, affiliated to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), formed a committee under the chairmanship of senior journalist Alok Mehta to honour those who have done excellent works during the pandemic.

Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, Kamrup (Metro) Information and Public Relations Officer Ratan Saud, Dhubri Superintendent of Police Anand Mishra, Gauhati Press Club general secretary Sanjay Ray, Asomiya Pratidin�s senior journalist Dhruba Jyoti Pathak, Dainik Asom�s senior journalist Jitendra Kumar Chaudhury, News Live journalist Gaurav Jyoti Neog, few other senior journalists and office bearers of various socio-cultural organisations will be honoured during the programme.

NUJI national vice president Bhupen Goswami, Journalist Association of Assam (JAA) president Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty and general secretary Dalim Phukan, in a statement, said media persons, police officials, doctors, other health workers and employees have done a remarkable work during the COVID-19 period.

�A large number of journalists have tested positive for COVID-19. Central and state governments should provide financial assistance to media persons, declaring them corona warriors,� the statement added.
