JORHAT, June 23 � A friend, philosopher and guide for tea planters of the State and a beloved philanthropist for the people of Jorhat, Anil Kumar Barooah breathed his last today at the Mission Hospital here due to his old age ailment. He was 84.
Barooah�s death was condoled by several local organisations, educational institutions including JB College, Assam Tea Planters Association (ATPA), the district unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha, several educationists and students across the city.
�His death has caused irreparable loss to the tea industry. His integrity and virtue will always remain in our minds,� said Raj Barooah, chairperson of the ATPA.
An alumnus of St Edmund�s College of Shillong, Anil Barooah�s financial contributions to several educational institutions of Jorhat and his financial aid to poor meritorious students were recollected by several citizens across the city.
�He was a philanthropist of Jorhat. His immense contributions to the Lion�s Eye Hospital, Sabda Saikhik Nyas, JB College and several other trusts and organisations will be remembered always. His death has caused an irreparable loss for all of us,� said Indrajit Baruah, president of Jorhat Zila Sahitya Sabha.
