PHE employee posted in remote place for 33 years with no work

By Correspondent

DIPHU, Sept 24 - The Public Health Engineering Departments non-functioning office buildings located at Dillai, around 55 kilometres from Diphu, may be referred to as a classic example of wastage of public money.

According to locals of the area, this office was commissioned in 1984 and for the last 33 years the office building, staff quarter, ring well etc., have remained in a neglected condition. Only one employee with no duty has been kept posted in that ruin for the last 33 years and he is also retiring soon. Office rooms, signboard, fencing, staff quarters, bathrooms and other amenities are totally run-down and the only employee stays in the office premises in a house built by himself.

It is learnt that many departmental officers have visited that place but have done nothing either to make the establishment functional or withdraw it from that place. There was nothing to do here since the past 33 years and now I am about to retire from my work. No one told me what to do and I am posted here without being assigned any specific work, the only employee present said.
