AGARTALA, Jan 1 - Phanindranath Sarma has been appointed as the BJP State general secretary (organisation) in-charge of Tripura, a move aimed at boosting the party organisation in the newly saffronised State.
While BJP general secretary Ram Madhav will oversee the party affairs in the State, Sarma, a veteran leader of the Sangh Parivar, will look after the organisational aspects.
Earlier, Sarma was overseeing the party organisation as per a temporary arrangement, but this time party president Amit Shah has appointed Sarma as a full- fledged organisational general secretary for Tripura along with Assam.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who is also the party�s State president, today welcomed Sarma�s appointment.
In another development, Amitabh Chakravarty has been appointed as the State joint general secretary for West Bengal and Anantha Narayan Mishra has been given the charge of State secretary (organisation) for Arunachal Pradesh.
