NEW DELHI, March 23 � Veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee will be honoured with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2011, it was officially announced today.

The 77-year-old actor�s name was proposed by a five member Jury. The award, the highest honour in Indian Cinema, will be presented to the veteran actor during the 59th National Film Awards function.

Chatterjee made his debut in 1959 with Satyajit Ray�s Apur Sansar and went on to star in 14 of his films. In his career spanning more then five decades, Chatterjee has acted in more than 400 films including the films of Tapan Sinha, Mrinal Sen and Tarun Majumdar. � PTI
