Phalke award for filmmaker Anwar Hussain

GUWAHATI, April 28 � Veteran Assamese filmmaker Anwar Hussain will be felicitated by the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy, Mumbai, during the 141st birthday celebration of the father of Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke, in Mumbai on April 30.

The academy will also honour him with the �Phalke Award� in recognition of his contribution to the film industry.

Hussain is the first filmmaker from Assam to receive the academy�s honour.

The 76-year-old Hussain had learnt filmmaking at the Motion Picture Arts Academy in 1952-53 and made his first film in Assamese, Sara Pat in 1926 when he was only 21. His other films include Natun Prithivi, Tezimala, Paap Aru Prayachitta, and Sri Sri Maa Kamakhya. His latest venture, Agnikanya, is slated for release shortly.
