GUWAHATI, Oct 16 � The Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd on Tuesday assured the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) that its Biswanath Chariali Converter Station would not transmit the power being generated at the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP) and other hydel stations being set up in Arunachal Pradesh. However, a written assurance of the Corporation on the issue is awaited.
According to a KMSS press release here, several senior officials of the Government of India-run Power Grid Corporation on Tuesday made this assurance at a meeting with the KMSS office-bearers at the Gandhibasti headquarters of the organisation.
The Corporation officials also assured of a written undertaking to the KMSS leaders and the latter told the Corporation officials that they would formulate their next steps on the issue after holding consultations with the organisations that have allied with the KMSS in its anti-mega dam stir. The KMSS will also consult the intellectuals of the State on the issue to formulate its next course of action on the issue, said the KMSS press release.
The KMSS has fixed one week, after receiving the written assurance from the Power Grid Corporation, as the deadline for arriving at a conclusion on the issue.
The KMSS also asked the Power Grid Corporation not to allow the four barges carrying seven transformers and their parts to move out of Dhubri till a decision on the above issue is made known by the people of the State.
It has also made an appeal to the people of the State to express their opinions on the issue of allowing the barges to move out of Dhubri on their journey towards Biswanath Chariali.
