IMPHAL, April 24 After remaining closed for two days, the petrol pumps in Manipur resumed normal services this afternoon following the suspension of oil tanker drivers strike.

Resumption of service by petrol pumps created traffic jams in the city as vehicle owners made long queues in front of the petrol pumps.

The All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union called off their strike around 10 am today, following the release of the abducted oil tanker driver.

The Union President Y Bhupendra Ghosh told media persons that they are still demanding a secure environment for the oil tankers.

Driver S Surjit Singh was abducted by suspected militants near Kohima on Sunday morning. Since then his whereabouts were not known.

He was released by the abductors who claimed themselves as members of Nagaland based armed group Naga National Council(NNC) after detaining him for two nights.

Surjit told a group of reporters that the abductors asked him to inform Manipur oil tanker owners that each tanker has to pay Rs 10,000 each to the NNC as annual taxes or operate at their own risk.
