Petrol, diesel seized in Dhemaji

By Correspondent

DHEMAJI, April 25 - Following instructions from the Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner, a joint team of officials led by Sissiborgaon revenue circle officer Sunbor Chutiya conducted a routine check against illegal storage of diesel and petrol, and seized a huge quantity of fuel.

Officials informed that the team comprising police and officials of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department on Wednesday seized 885 litres of diesel and 598 litres of petrol illegally stored for retail sale.

The officials reported their findings to the Dhemaji DC for follow-up action. However, no trader involved in the illegal fuel trade has been charged so far.

Meanwhile, Jonai Sub-divisional Officer (SDO) Nisarge Hivare accompanied by FCS&CA officials conducted a random check in fair price shops of Jonai town and nearby areas, and traced anomalies in sale of subsidised oil supplied under the public distribution system.

The SDO warned four fair price dealers of Jonai to maintain accountability in their business, and said that they might face legal action if any further complaint is received in the coming days.

In October last year, during similar surprise checks in hotels, restaurants and fair price shops in different parts of the district, officials seized 35 domestic LPG cylinders, and also some cartons of IMFL (liquor) illegally kept in their possession.
