Peripheral areas under single authority

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 - In a bid to bring the peripheral areas under the jurisdiction of a single authority, a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal here today decided to create the Assam State Capital Region Development Authority, said an official press release here.

The meeting held in the conference room of the State Secretariat decided that in order to extend the fruits of metropolitan development administration to the peripheral areas of Guwahati and to stimulate fast development of all areas adjoining Guwahati, the Assam State Capital Region Development Authority will come into force very soon.

The meeting, also attended by the Finance, Planning and Development Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu, Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Lohia, Commissioner and Secretary Finance Dr Ravi Kota and CEO Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, however, decided to take into cognizance the opinions of the local people and consult them before taking a final call on the project.

The meeting decided to prepare a draft law to give a shape to the proposed Authority, delineate the areas to figure in it and consult the people to take all the stakeholders on board. The meeting also mooted the idea that the Authority will be envisaged in sync with the unique character of a place to be brought under the project so that inherent and indigenous characteristics of all the places remain intact, the press release said.
