By R Dutta Choudhury

GUWAHATI, June 23 - The State Government will be able to overcome all the challenges before it with the cooperation of all sections of people, asserted Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid special emphasis on the development of the entire North East.

Talking to The Assam Tribune on the completion of one month in office, the Chief Minister said that during the past one month, the new Government has been able to identify some of the challenges before it. I have noticed that the people of Assam not only supported us during the elections, but also during the past one month. We have been receiving full cooperation and suggestions from the people and if we continue to receive such support, we will be able to overcome all the challenges, he said.

Sonowal admitted that during the past month, he noticed that the expectations from the people are very high and the Government would have to work hard to fulfil the aspirations of all sections of people.

He said that the poor financial condition is one of the major challenges before the Government and expressed the hope that the Centre would extend help to tide over the immediate crisis.

The Chief Minister recently met the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister seeking the Centres help to overcome the financial crisis inherited by the new Government. He said that he is confident that the Centre would extend help to the State soon. The process of extending help by the Centre has already started, he revealed.

He also said that there is no dearth of resources in the State and the financial position of Assam can be improved considerably by properly tapping the resources.

Sonowal said that the Prime Minister is committed for the all-round development of not only Assam but the entire North East. Modi has already taken a series of steps for the development of the region, including improvement of the communication network, and he is of the view that successful implementation of the Act East Policy would hold the key to its development.

The Chief Minister expressed the view that improving work culture would be another major challenge before the Government. He said if the work culture improves in all the Government departments, the confidence of the common people in the system would also grow. Peoples confidence in the administration is a key to all-round development of the State, he added.
