MANGALDAI, April 5 - �In the first phase of Assembly elections on Monday recorded a large voter turnout. People made beelines to cast their votes for a total change. This indicates that the wave is in favour of us,� said Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing an election rally for Bodoland Peoples� Front (BPF) candidate at Kalaigaon on Monday afternoon.
�The alliance of the BJP with the BPF and the AGP is not only a political move, but it is an effort to create �Bor Asom� (greater Assam) of our dream taking the active cooperation of all the ethnic groups of the State. The Congress party has already divided the people of the State into various groups only to fulfil their interest, but we will never make any compromise on safeguarding our land, nation and our base,� added the star campaigner in the BPF-organised rally at Kalaigaon College field.
Landing in two different private choppers, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary said that the people of Assam have decided to join the wave of change initiated by Narendra Modi-led BJP Government only for the all-round development and welfare of the State.
�Capturing 40 seats in the first phase and equal number in the second phase of elections, it is sure that the BJP-BPF-AGP alliance will form the next Government and the first priority of the new Government will be to provide employment opportunity to 26 lakhs of unemployed youths of the State, drinking water facility to every citizen and to expedite the pace of the development activities. We will provide rice at Rs 2 per kg by home delivery to every family, provide scooty free of cost to every college going girls, arrange free education for girl students and students from the poor section in college and university level and provide Rs 5 lakh each to every self-help group in the State,� said Dr Sarma while terming Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as a traitor for allegedly betraying BTC chief Mohilary.
He added that Mohilary will have a strong position in their new Government. Later talking to the mediapersons, Dr Sarma said that he had great respect for his political mentor Hiteswar Saikia and that is the reason why he (Sarma) did not take part in the election campaign in Nazira constituency where the son of Hiteswar Saikia has contested as the Congress candidate.
Earlier, Mohilary in his speech criticised a Delhi-based news channel for their exit poll and a section of intellectuals who appealed to the people against the BJP and its alliance and said that the news channel and the so called intellectuals have no idea on the scenario of Assam.
�The people of the State want a change and this election will bid farewell to the Congress,� Mohilary said. He also criticised the AIUDF alleging that the party is gradually losing its base.
The rally was conducted by BTC executive member Jagadish Sarkar, which was also addressed by Parliamentarian Biswajjit Daimary, BPF candidate Maheswar Boro and president of Udalguri district committee of the BJP, Keshab Chandra Barua, among others.
