People urged to work unitedly for conserving biodiversity

TEZPUR, Nov 22 - Urging the people to work together for conserving biodiversity for the safe future of human beings, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that if nature and the mother earth do not support us we will not be able to survive.

Sonowal who came here on the second day of the three-day-long 19th national convention of All India Poetess Conference that kicked off from yesterday at the Porua Chariali Pastoral Centre here, said that poetry is power, and a poet only can feel the innermost feelings of the human beings. Poetry is a powerful expression of the heart of a poet. �We consider the world as mother earth symbolising the woman power that plays a major role in the world. For our personal and momentary pleasures, we shouldn�t destroy our nature,� he said adding that poetic excellence can be gained through honesty, dedication, loyalty and hard work.

Giving a clarion call to the womenfolk to dedicate themselves to the nation�s development, he also said that greatness of a nation depends upon social power and integrity among the people irrespective of caste, community and religion and in this, the women have a major role to play.

Highlighting the qualities of the Northeast region as well as Assam before the poetesses coming from across the nation, he said that the Northeast and Assam are centres of diverse cultures and untouched natural beauty, integrity and heritage. �This majestic quality is to be kept unhurt every time. However, we are optimistic enough that litt�rateurs including poets can play a major role in this regard,� he said. Urging the women to work together with other sections of the society for eradicating evils from the society like drug abuse, superstitious beliefs and other immoral activities that keep the society stagnant, he also stated that if women come forward for nation�s development, no force can stop the nation�s uplift.

Earlier in his keynote address, the founder of the AIPC, Dr Lari Azad spoke on the history of the existence of the All India Poetess Conference and its contribution towards Indian literature and culture which was possible through women�s practice of literature.

The president of the reception committee for the mega event, Dr Saru Saharia Nath gave her welcome address appreciating all for extending their helping hand for making the event a grand success. The Chief Minister released the souvenir Asomi.

The function was graced by GMD Chairman-cum-MLA, Dhekiajuli, Ashok Singhal, Rangapara MLA, Rajen Barthakur, Barchala MLA, Ganesh Limbu, Chairman, AMTRON, Ritubaran Sharma, Chairman, Jyoti Chitraban, Pabitra Margherita among others.
