GUWAHATI, Feb 15 - Saksham, a month-long countrywide mass awareness drive, which was also conducted in Assam from January 16 by the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and public sector oil and gas companies under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to propagate the need for conservation and effective utilisation of petroleum products like petrol, diesel, LPG, etc., came to an end today.
During the awareness drive, various activities like human chain, walkathon, bicycle rally, fuel-efficient driving contest, graffiti and wall painting competition, group talks, debate competition, article writing competition, workshops, free PUC checks, fuel saving concert, street plays, etc., were conducted.
The valedictory function of Saksham 2019 was organised centrally by the oil industry at the Jubilee Hall of Guwahati Refinery, Noonmati.
Details of the activities conducted during Saksham 2019 were outlined by Uttiya Bhattacharyya, state-level coordinator of Assam and chief general manager, IOCL, during his speech in front of a gathering of students, parents, oil industry officials and public.
Bhattacharyya reiterated the need and the underlying spirit of the awareness campaign to adopt practices to conserve and use petroleum products judiciously in our day-to-day life.
Guwahati Refinery executive director Jogen Barpujari spoke about the global scenario and the demand for petroleum products as part of the overall energy basket.
He highlighted the import dependency of India for petroleum products, especially against the backdrop of robust economic growth and how the awareness campaigns taken up during Saksham can contribute towards the country�s progress.
Prize were distributed to students, housewives, car owners, artists, etc., for various competitions held on the issue of oil and gas conservation.
