People urged to follow path of Bishnu Rabha

GOALPARA, June 24 - Bishnu Rabha Divas was organised by the Goalpara district administration and the Cultural Centre, Dudhnoi in association with the Bishnu Rabha Divas Udjapan Committee, constituted by the Goalpara District Democratic Youth Federation of India here at the Gandhi Bhavan on June 20. The daylong programme began with the ADC, Ajit Narayan Hazarika paying floral tributes to the legendary artist on the occasion of his 47th death anniversary.

The chief guest on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner JVN Subramanyam while giving a brief but very inspiring speech said that Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha was one of the pioneers of Assamese art and culture and as a man of extraordinary talents he was not only a poet, a writer but also a musical genius. Throwing light on his life, he urged the audience to follow the path shown by Rabha. Moreover, he assured that he would try his best and contribute for the uplift of Goalpara as a cultural hub of Assam as the place has a rich cultural heritage with its diverse cultures.

Noted litterateur Bipul Khataniyar in his keynote speech enlightened the audience as to how Bishnu Rabha succeeded in unifying his Marxist philosophy and artistic ideas into a single entity. Distinguished guest, and former Professor of Goalpara College, Uttam Chandra Sarma enlightened the gathering with his brief speech and in his deliberation, he appealed to the intellectuals of Assam to take seriously the research works done by Bishnu Prasad Rabha on the ancient history of Assam.

The lecture session was conducted by Dr Ratan Chandra Bhattacharyya, vice-principal of Goalpara College while the cultural officer, Narayan Chandra Talukdar who delivered the welcome address also paid rich tributes to this revolutionary artist.

DOOMDOOMA: Along with the rest of the State, Bishnu Rabha Divas was also observed at various places of Doomdooma circle. Nava Prayash, an NGO observed the day in collaboration with the Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha (DSSS) with a two-day programme on June 19-20 at the Sahitya Sabha Bhawan premises. Various cultural competitions were held on the occasion. On the second day afternoon, a discussion was held on the life and works of Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Several students, youths and academicians participated in it.

The day was also observed at Baghjan-Dighaltarang High School under the auspices of Baghjan Gaon Milanjyoti Sangha where Rabha�s contributions towards Assamese society was recalled. In this programme, 60 students of the area, who passed out in the HSLC and HSSLC Examination-2016 with flying colours were felicitated.

Borhapjan Sakha Sahitya Sabha in collaboration with Borhapjan Gyanoday Yuvak Sangha observed Bishnu Rabha Divas at Borhapjan ME School. Various cultural competitions were held among the students on this occasion.

RANGIYA: Under the auspices of Xipa-Ek Astitva (root-an identity), a socio-literary and cultural organisation of the locality, Rabha Divas was observed in a befitting manner here at Harudutta-Biradutta Bhavan premises with a daylong programme. At the beginning, floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Bishnu Rabha, which was followed by various other programmes later. Noted social worker and renowned pathologist, Dr Anjan Jyoti Choudhury, noted artiste Tarali Sarma, besides other invited artistes took part in the event and spoke at length on the life and deeds of Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha highlighting the rich contribution of the artiste in the enrichment of Assamese cultural arena in particular. Later, they also sung Rabha songs enthralling the audience.

Earlier, 12 songs in memory of the noted artiste were presented by different local artistes and by Pranjal Parash, famous Assamese singer from the locality.

Mushalpur: Under the aegis of the Baska Anchalik Committee of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Bishnu Rabha Divas was observed at the Mushalpur-based office of the literary organisation with a daylong programme that started with hoisting of the flag by its president, Anil Chandra Kakoti on June 20. The observation was marked by poem recitation competition, Bishnu Rabha Sangeet competition and a drawing contest. Dr Basanta Sarma, retired professor of Bajali College recalled the contributions of the Kalaguru in the spheres of life, literature and culture of Assam.

The Baksa District Committee of the Asam Sahitya Sabha observed Bishnu Rabha Divas at Thamna in association with Bishnu-Jyoti Sakha Sahitya Sabha.

NAGAON: Under the auspices of the Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibharal Santha, Bishnu Rabha Divas was observed with a daylong programme. The programme began with a cleanliness drive, tree plantation and paying homage at the portrait of Rabha.

A seminar on the contributions of Bishnu Prasad Rabha to the Assamese society was also held which was conducted by the president of the Santha, Pratap Hazarika. The seminar was formally declared open by cultural activist Deba Kanta Mahanta. Prof Dr Budhen Saikia and Mohini Mohan Deka took part in the seminar. Retired Professor Biren Das, literary organiser Homeswar Devasharma and social worker Thaneswar Saikia were the invited guests in the seminar.

The Sankarjyoti unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Nagaon district committee of the Asam Sanskritik Mahasabha and the Nagaon unit of Puthibharal Santha extended support to the programme.

HAFLONG: Dima Hasao district also observed Bishnu Rabha Divas at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner.

The programme began with the playing of Bishnu Rabha Sangeet through fixed loud speaker by the DIPR department. A floral tribute to the portrait of Kalaguru and lighting of the lamp thereof by the Dima Hasao DC, Amarendra Baruah was done. Baruah gave a brief history about Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Other speakers also spoke about the multifaceted artist and revolutionary singer of Assam. As a part of the programme, drawing competitions for students was held by the Asam Sahitya Sabha unit of Dima Hasao district.
